I've dedicated my career to hospitality since the age of 16, finding fulfillment in the industry's challenges and successes. Lately, I've been particularly passionate about programs like ProStart, offering valuable real-world training and mentorship to aspiring young professionals in hospitality. How will this course help individuals step up in their career? The HTIM course offers crucial information and tools vital for students exploring careers in hospitality. Topics like guest satisfaction, costing and metrics, and food and alcohol safety are thoroughly covered and are essential for a successful career in the field. What advice do you have for others in the hospitality industry who are looking for ways to grow in their career? Never stop learning! There is always room to grow and change. Understand others and their views will ultimately help to shape our own view and make us more versatile, understanding, and compassionate humans. What is your favorite part of teaching the HTIM business management course? The part that excites me most about instructing the HTIM course is getting to spend time with the future leaders of our industry – to learn and grow from one another. How long have you been working in the industry? I started as a busboy in a family-owned restaurant when I was 16 years old! What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get into this industry? I held multiple roles at the first property where I worked including busser, buffet attendant, delivery driver, expediter, host and server. I was able to work hard and advance my position within the company while being in high school due to a co-op program. Can you share more background on your current role? My role as Director of Operations focuses on managing multiple properties, collaborating with management teams to maintain high-quality standards, meet acceptable metrics in areas such as food, beverage, and labor, and drive business growth to increase profitability annually. Interesting and fun fact: I love to snowboard! You can catch me driving eight hours to the Keweenaw peninsula in the winter to catch a snowstorm at Mount Bohemia! |
