Meet Loretta RoundtreeWhy did you want to be an instructor for the HTIM business management course?
Having served as the HTIM Learning Management System implementation administrator, I have a personal affinity to the success of the Business Management Training Program. The program offers a unique opportunity to persons working in the industry who may not have otherwise be able to acquire this level of training. As a co-owner/operator of a business in this industry, I understand the need to assure that exemplary services are provided to Michigan customers to stay competitive. I am excited to expand my contribution to this very important program. How will this course help individuals step up in their career? Students will acquire management skills, relevant industry knowledge and, multiple accredited certifications at no cost which is epic. The personal potential that is fulfilled resulting from the completion of the course, encourages students to perform better on the job. It will also motivate them to excel in their career beyond the boundaries that may have previously been perceived. This program is creating proud leaders. What advice do you have for others in the hospitality industry who are looking for ways to grow in their career? Go the extra mile in enhancing and sharing your skills and knowledge. Take full advantage of the HTIM Business Management Training opportunity while it is still available at no cost. The value of the long-term benefits outweighs the cost the program, even if were tuition based. What is your favorite part of teaching the HTIM business management course? I am looking forward to helping learners discover their management potential by acquiring supervisory, financial management skills and, soft skills such as, empathy related to bias and handling difficult situations. The program provides case scenarios to understand some of the problems and successes of industry peers which often presents the best way to learn. My overall favorite part is the reward of a student who is proud of their accomplishments. Can you share more background on your current role? I have been an IT Implementation Consultant for decades. I am particularly adept in business process alignment to large systems such as Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) primarily with Public Sector clients. I am currently providing implementation and post-implementation consulting services to HTIM for the Learning Management System that is being used for this Step-Up program. I am also a co-owner for a family food truck business providing mobile coffee service throughout Michigan. What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get into this industry? My first job in hospitality was during summers while in college where I worked for the EvenTide retirement home which was run by the Salvation Army. We served three meals per day to the elderly who were physically and mentally impaired and some were not able to feed themselves. It was very important to learn and understand the dietary and nutritional needs of the patients in this setting. I worked assignments ranging from dishwashing to preparing and deliver trays to rooms. This job taught me a lot about compassion and patience. The greatest part of this job is what I learned from the patients by listening to their experiences. Interesting and fun fact: I love the water and I have been on more than 30 cruises and have been a boater for seven years. I love to snorkel, however, I never learned how to swim! |
