Meet Carrie Barrix.Location: Flint, MI
Employer: Maru Hospitality Group Title: Chief Operating Officer “I would encourage restaurants and hospitality groups across Michigan to take advantage of these opportunities for upskilling. It's a great way to pave the way for the advancement of their emerging talents!” Why did you want be an instructor for the HTIM business management course? Engaging in learning and development aligns with my passion. This opportunity allows me to leverage my industry knowledge and enthusiasm for continual learning to make a meaningful impact on the careers of hospitality professionals seeking advancement. How will this course help individuals step up in their career? This program is comprehensive, covering various topics that establish a solid foundation for hospitality management. From addressing unconscious bias to imparting financial management skills and guidance on becoming a more effective supervisor, participants will also gain four industry-accredited certifications. What is your favorite part of teaching the HTIM business management course? Meeting individuals from different backgrounds and locations across the state with unique stories and aspirations has been truly rewarding. At the core, our shared commitment to serving, supporting and showing care for people is immensely inspiring. How long have you been working in the industry? I've been actively engaged in the industry for seven years, with a short stint serving during my college days. Can you share more background on your current role? While not my first venture into hospitality, working at Maru marked my introduction to management in the industry. With a background in Chemistry and having spent recent years as a busy mom homeschooling four daughters, I sought a part-time challenge to reenter the workforce. Fortunately, I seized the opportunity to work alongside Maru's founder, Robert Song and have been able to step up my career starting as his executive assistant and moving up in the company up to my current role chief operating officer. |
