Learning small things in the course is what has prepared me for bigger opportunities and steps. I have already seen first-hand how applicable these skills can be in the workplace day to day. What advice do you have for others in the hospitality industry who are looking for ways to grow their career? I encourage all my colleagues to take advantage of this free opportunity. This course is truly life-changing and can be a pivotal moment for your career. Take the time to invest in yourself and your career. What was your favorite part of the HTIM Business Management Course? Although I enjoyed the whole course, my favorite part was taking the skills that I learned and applying them in the workplace. Additionally, the instructor’s delivery and passion for the course made the class upbeat and exciting. I didn’t feel like I was in a traditional classroom learning setting but almost like I was on a business trip gaining the tools I needed for the next step in my career. How long have you been in the industry? I have invested myself in the customer service, and hospitality industry for over 10 years now. Can you share more on your background on your current role? As a night auditor, part of my role is making sure the finances are in order each day. Including making sure the systems are in order, all payments have been collected and to make sure there are no payment discrepancies. It is my responsibility to capture the previous day accurately and to start the new day in the operational computer system, which almost always requires the graveyard shift. Occasionally I help prep breakfasts, do laundry and clean. It is the role of the night auditor is more than just one duty, it requires me to be well-rounded and knowledgeable in a variety of departments. What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get involved in the industry? At 16 I got my first job in customer service, positioned on windows and fries at McDonalds. I slowly but surely moved my way through the company from window to register. Later in life, I switched out of the customer service industry and quickly realized I didn’t have the same passion as I did when working in customer service. Before the pandemic, I started a new career in the hotel industry as a housekeeper. After going through different positions, locations and branches, I learned that front desk/management is where I felt at home. I realized I didn’t want to experience any other field but hospitality and the different avenues it had to offer. The opportunities in the hospitably industry are endless and I wanted to see where it took me. Interesting and fun fact: I am a 33-year-old dog mom to two American Staffordshire Terriers. I love to travel, explore and discover new things, places and people. I currently have visions of owning and operating a few different businesses that may bring economic development and community engagement together Comments are closed.
