How will this help you step up in your career?
By enhancing my business acumen and skills through HTIM business management course, I am most definitely better equipped to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship, make informed decisions, and contribute to the success and growth of our restaurant business. This experience will not only help me succeed in our current endeavor but will also cross over into my field of expertise and enhance the knowledge and experience I already possess. What advice do you have for others in the hospitality industry who are looking for ways to grow their career? My advice would be to prioritize continuous learning and skill development. Invest in relevant courses, certifications, or workshops, such as with HTIM, which can provide valuable insights and knowledge to excel your career placement in this field. Lastly, find ways to intentionally position yourself for success and advancement in your career. What was your favorite part of the HTIM business management course? My favorite part of the HTIM course was undoubtedly the invaluable interactions with my instructor, Tyler, and my classmates. They all played a critical role in enhancing my learning experience beyond just the modules through engaging discussions, asking relevant and strategic questions, and sharing insights regarding their real-time business endeavors. Tyler also was dedicated in ensuring everyone was present and included in everything we accomplished as a class which contributed to further broadened my understanding of business management practices, especially in the context of the food service industry where I am about to embark on a new venture. How long have you been working in the industry? I have never worked in this industry, but I will be a first-time restaurant owner very soon. Can you share more background on your current role? I am a math instructional coach for grades 3 through 8. I am employed at Francis Reh Public School Academy in the city of Saginaw. I have been in the educational field for 16 years. I am the co-owner of Jr's Ribs & Takeout at 2926 Hess Ave in the city of Saginaw. We are projected to open Spring 2025. What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get into this industry? My first job in hospitality will be as a co-owner of a restaurant, overseeing compliance of documentation. My business partner and I strategized to divide our responsibilities effectively. While my business partner concentrates on cooking, managing employees, and overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant, my role will be to manage documentation, handle bookkeeping tasks, coordinate orders and oversee the business aspects of the restaurant. Interesting and fun fact: After this course, I have drummed up the confidence to run for city council. This fall, I will be on the ballot as a candidate for a four-year term for Saginaw City Council. That's what happens when you obtain four certifications in 12 weeks! Comments are closed.
