How will this help you step up in your career?
This course has provided me with necessary skills for running a business. I have learned how to hire, train and manage employees. I have also learned so much about food and alcohol safety as it pertains to my business specifically. What advice do you have for others in the hospitality industry who are looking for ways to grow their career? The best advice I can offer to others looking to grow their career is to ask questions and listen. Oftentimes, those who have been working in the industry a long time are so willing to share their experiences and mistakes with those who ask. I think this is one of the most valuable ways to learn and prepare for anything you might see in your career. It truly is wonderful to have the experience of others to help grow. What was your favorite part of the HTIM business management course? My favorite part of the HTIM management course was getting to meet others who could offer such valuable advice. I was able to meet other business owners and ask questions as well and forge some friendships along the way. How long have you been working in the industry? I am extremely new to the hospitality industry. I come from a background of sports medicine. Sometimes I feel as if I can equate the two in some ways, but this realm is quite new to me. I began working on the business in May of 2023 and will be opening in July of 2024. Can you share more background on your current role? My current role is owner but I fill various other roles from manager to bartender. I am currently navigating the ins and outs of owning and operating a new business. What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get into this industry? My first job in hospitality was as a server at Red Robin. I started the job to make money for college. I didn't see myself staying in the industry but after some time I've found myself back in the heart of it by opening my business. I love the thrill of hosting and creating an environment that people love and want to keep coming back to. This is why I have realized this industry is for me! Interesting and fun fact: I am quite the travel junkie! I have visited France, London, Israel, Aruba, Mexico, Canada, The Dominican Republic, and Austria. Comments are closed.
