My advice for anyone looking to advance their career in the hospitality industry is to seize every opportunity presented by leadership, as it demonstrates your initiative and commitment to progressing within the industry. What was your favorite part of the HTIM four-week financial course? My favorite aspect of the HTIM financial course was participating in the Zoom meeting group discussions. These sessions provided valuable insights into how other hotels across Michigan operate and utilize various management tools introduced throughout the course. How long have you been working in the industry? I have been working in the hospitality industry for 1 year and 7 months as of February 2025. Can you share more background on your current role? In my role as an Accounting Associate, I am responsible for auditing daily property reports across multiple hotels to ensure financial accuracy. Additionally, I manage the tracking of chargebacks, bank accounts, and monthly financial reports. I provide support wherever needed, including areas such as Accounts Payable and Financial Reporting. What was your first job in hospitality? How did you get into this industry? My entry into the hospitality industry began with a role in accounting, which I pursued after relocating to Cheboygan. Interesting & fun fact: I had the unique opportunity to meet and watch over the Travelocity gnome during the filming of a commercial on Mackinac Island, where I resided year-round for several years.
